My inner gardener

Seems like I'm always daydreaming about something. Lately it's been gardening. Really it's the wrong season to get started on a garden, so I'm sticking to daydreaming. Mostly. I did managed to finally plant the few stalks of Russian Sage my neighbor had given me and that I was barely keeping alive in a container on the porch. I love Russian Sage, so I'm hoping it thrives. It should since now it has a happy Earthly home instead of being stuck in a container with not much soil and/or water to prosper. And I might get around to digging up the zinnia babies that sprang up in the front bed despite my ripping them out. And because it's scorching hot, daydreaming and planning my future beds.

What's making planning difficult is that most of my utility lines are buried where I want to plant—along the side of the house. I'm still not quite certain what I'll do, and the look I'm after: A sweeping line of lavender. And I hope once we put up a fence next year, that I can add another line of lavender or Russian Sage.

Imagine:

I plan to kill off the grass on one side of the house because it can't seem to stay alive during any season let alone the second coming of the dust bowl. Well, except the crabgrass. The crabgrass can survive a zombie attack and an apocalypse. Once the grass is killed off I'd like to put down stepping stones. Again, I'm not exactly sure how I'll be able to do this since our utility lines are right there.

And while all that's going on in my head, we're also putting in a 10'x20' paver patio. Because we're gluttons for punishment, we started the hardest part of the project—prying up our sod and the clay we found beneath (surprise!), in record-setting heat. Needless to say we haven't gotten far because once the shade disappears at noon, so does are resolve and we head inside for hot showers and clean clothes. Maybe we'll be done by the end of July. Maybe. We joke that it'll be a story to tell everyone: We put this patio in on days it reached 104 degrees and higher outside!

Until then, I keep daydreaming—in the refreshing coolness of my AC—where I'm going to put in my veggie garden and how the water feature will sound when I lounge on my patio. It's really beautiful—in my head. Oh, and on Pinterest.

  1. Hi Jessie, I just found your blog from your comment on YHL. I saw that you have MS and as I have it too I thought I would come over and say hi. It's a fairly new thing for me, so it's always good to 'meet' others who are in the same boat. xx
